How does it work? Can't you just pull it off?

At first glance, the HZD Grip looks impossible. There’s no large base ring behind the body. No piercing.

So naturally, the first question most people ask is:

“Can’t you just pull it off?”

The short answer is:

No because the Grip is designed to react to pullout force.

Traditional Cages vs The HZD Grip

Most traditional chastity cages work by trapping tissue behind a rigid base ring. The ring stays tight all the time, creating constant pressure to prevent the device from moving forward.

That approach works, but it also causes many of the problems. The HZD Grip approaches retention differently. Instead of relying on constant retention pressure, it uses a triggered retention system that activates when removal force is applied.

The Glans Ring Is the Trigger, Not the Anchor

One of the biggest misconceptions about the Grip is that the glans ring itself is somehow “holding” the entire device on. That is not how it works. The glans ring acts as the trigger point for the retention system. When forward pressure is applied, the glans engages the ring, transferring force into the clamping mechanism. That force causes the device to tighten around the shaft automatically.

In other words:

  • The glans detects the pull
  • The mechanism responds
  • The shaft carries the retention force

The harder the pull attempt, the more the system engages.

Why Lubrication Doesn’t Simply Defeat It

Another common assumption is:

“Wouldn’t lubricant just let it slide off?”

The HZD Grip was designed specifically to avoid relying on friction alone. Instead of depending entirely on surface grip, the device uses mechanical retention. Pullout force activates the tightening mechanism itself. Lubrication may reduce surface friction, but it does not stop the retention system from engaging.

Why Proper Sizing Matters

The Grip is a mechanical system, not just a tight ring. That means sizing is extremely important, especially the glans ring. If the glans ring is too loose, the trigger response can be reduced. If it is too tight, comfort suffers unnecessarily. You should expect to try a few different glans ring sizes and combinations.   Community feedback consistently identifies glans ring sizing as the most important factor for both comfort and security.
